Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed with US President Joe Biden during a phone call the current situation of bilateral relations between the two countries.
"The two sides expressed, during the phone call that took place at the American initiative, their readiness to continue dialogue on the most important areas of ensuring global security that would meet not only the interests of Russia and the United States, but the interests of the entire international community," a Kremlin statement said.
The statement pointed out that views were exchanged between the two sides on the internal Ukrainian crisis, while Putin defined approaches to political settlement on the basis of the Minsk package of measures, and it was agreed to assign the relevant departments to work on the issues discussed.
In turn, Biden expressed his interest in normalizing the situation on the bilateral track between the two countries, establishing stable interaction and ensuring strategic stability. He also suggested considering the possibility of holding a personal summit meeting in the foreseeable future.
Recently, Russian-American relations have witnessed new tension after Biden accused Putin in a television interview of trying to influence the results of the recent US presidential elections.
