Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed that the only way for the United States of America to return to the nuclear deal is to lift the sanctions on his country.
This came during Rouhani's meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov today, where he praised Moscow's position and support for the nuclear talks, stressing the need to continue efforts to preserve and revive the nuclear agreement as it is a multilateral international agreement that served as a model for solving problems through negotiations and diplomacy.
Rouhani said: “America and the whole world have reached a conclusion that the maximum pressure has failed and that the only way for America to return to the nuclear agreement is to lift the sanctions,” adding: “All parties concerned with the nuclear agreement must abide by their commitments and accept what was agreed upon in 2015, so we do not accept. With the least that has been agreed upon, and we are not looking for anything more than it. ”
Rouhani referred to his country's desire to develop relations with Russia in various fields and to enhance regional cooperation, stressing that this cooperation is a strategic measure that contributes to countering the American unilateralism and its interference in the region, pointing out that giving the Zionist entity a foothold in the Gulf is a "dangerous measure."
For his part, Lavrov stressed Russia and Iran’s determination to consolidate bilateral relations, pointing out that the two countries have common goals for cooperation at the regional and international levels.
With regard to the nuclear agreement, Lavrov said: The only solution is America's return to Resolution 2231 issued by the Security Council without any preconditions and commitment to all its commitments.
