Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov confirmed that suspending the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran due to the sanctions imposed by the United States is impossible.
Sputnik quoted Ryabkov as telling reporters, "Russian-Iranian cooperation in Bushehr continues, including work on building the second and third units, and they are in different stages, but they are working."
The construction of power units in the Bushehr nuclear power plant is the largest Russian-Iranian project. The first unit of the nuclear power plant, which was completed with the participation of Russia, was linked to Iran's national energy system in September 2011, as Russia provides Iran with the nuclear fuel required to operate the first unit reactor.
On the other hand, Ryabkov indicated that Washington is doing everything to undermine Moscow's position on the international stage, stressing that "any threat only strengthens us in our conviction that we are on the right path because the United States is our opponent and does everything to undermine our position on the international stage."
Ryabkov urged Washington to stay away from Crimea and the coast of Russia on the Black Sea for its own benefit, explaining that the United States is carrying out provocations by sending its warships to the Black Sea, and such actions are an attempt to play on Russia's nerves and will not produce results.
Regarding the return of the Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, to Washington, Ryabkov announced that he had not yet completed the consultation process in Moscow, and the specific criteria for the timing of his return to Washington had not yet been discussed.
Regarding the open skies treaty, Ryabkov stressed that the United States must decide by the end of next May whether or not to return to the treaty, and if they do not reconsider their current position, this means that we will give the depositors of the agreement a memorandum on the withdrawal of the Russian Federation from it.
