I will not forget the pinch in my heart at the sound of the siren in an empty cemetery in the corona year. As a champion in the IDF, this is my last year in uniform, and this year I will be excited to honor the memory of their loved ones together in a warm and loving embrace.

For more than three decades in uniform, I see before my eyes the challenges of fighting in every position, remembering the figure of the commander I wanted to be and the process I went through, wearing IDF uniforms that will forever be a part of me.

Today, Memorial Day, My comrades and soldiers who have served me shoulder to shoulder in defending the country, I look back with excitement - looking at the same warrior I was, the same operational experiences, the wars, the operations and the ongoing security operations, and in the face of all this my heart shrinks Which are interwoven with faces and stories, names and places, highs and lows, which are a part of me, of the person and the commander that I am.

As a young tank commander, I found myself on the other side of the border, in turbulent southern Lebanon, the same land that in its challenges brought together the best of our sons.

There I first met ‘Dark Night’ and ‘Sneaky Fear’, alongside a real being of a team where everyone is for one, and one for all.

As a young commander in such a situation, you understand the magnitude of the responsibility that rests on your shoulders and you are driven by the power of the team, the power of the team - by the partnership and mutual guarantee - it is a unparalleled unity of fate and intensifies Of a brother to a weapon.

Over the years, the IDF has evolved and I have grown with it, and we face new challenges and threats. I have found myself commanding and fighting in various and complex situations and many arenas. My body and mind are burned by hundreds of names and faces I met up the road - some touched me Those who in their lives were brothers in arms and in their death, reluctantly, decreed that we should be a family, a bereaved family. Friends and soldiers who would not pick up another phone to say happy holidays, those who would not come to the reserve while reading, All year, and as if all that essence of longing is concentrated on one special day where I feel each of them - hugging the family, saluting and living them as if they never went - the stories, experiences, laughs and even angers.

A virtual hug for families and alone - on the day that is most "together".

The friends who were and are no longer, are the ones who shaped the consciousness of my command and the person I am today.

They are the ones who shaped the image and roots of the State of Israel.

They are the ones whose families are an integral part of the mosaic of my life and they are the ones thanks to whom we celebrate our independence, every year anew.

In the past year, we have faced another campaign, a non-military campaign - the fight against the corona virus.

It has been a challenging year for the world and certainly for the people of Israel - a people whose warmth and embrace are at the base of their being, required for unbearable social distance.

The day of remembrance in the year of the Corona will never be forgotten in my life, she pinched her heart at the sound of the siren in an empty cemetery, the virtual hug for families and this felt - on the day that is most "together".

This year, more than any other year, we will dedicate the transition from memory to independence to the bereaved families, we will honor the memory of the fallen in the sign of the transition from isolation and distance, to closeness, longing and a warm and loving touch.

This year, my last year in IDF uniform, I am more excited and proud than any other year to stand by the bereaved families in the cemeteries and memorial sites.

This year, we will go up to their graves, honor their heritage, embrace the families The life. May their memory be blessed.
