Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. Since the Islamic calendar has an average of only 354 days per year, the starting date of Ramadan varies from year to year. This year is from April 13 to May 12.

For Muslims, this period is the most sacred month of the year and closest to Allah. The 1.8 billion Muslims in the world will abstain from eating and drinking at certain times of the day. They will also quit smoking, gambling, swearing, and banning. Recreational activities and sexual intercourse, in addition, they become very generous to people, hoping to do as much good as possible.

According to the 2016 census, there are currently about 300,000 Muslims in Hong Kong.

In the past, during the fasting month, there were always a large number of believers in the mosques in various districts who would pray together and then dine together at a predetermined time, but such scenes are no longer seen in the epidemic.

In Chungking Mansion where many ethnic minorities gather, many restaurants have released a variety of "limited time" special foods at 5 o'clock in the evening, including dates and fruits; chicken porridge and curry soup; "Tempura" fried mixed vegetables, etc., attracting minority customers to buy.

Yau Tsim Mong District Councillor Chen Jialang also visited Chungking Mansion today and broadcast live on Facebook. He pointed out that during Ramadan, Muslims would spread carpets in Chungking Mansion to worship God in shopping mall corridors. Until sunset, Muslims do not eat and drink, so in Chungking Mansion before sunset, they will be seen to buy food to prepare for "breaking the fast."

Chen said that traditionally they would eat a few jujubes with their family members first, and then eat some light foods. The curry soup, like the "yellow version of chicken porridge," is one of the traditional foods.

He suggested that if you want to feel it, you can visit the restaurant of Chungking Mansion every day after 5 pm during the fasting month to experience the exotic atmosphere, as a "small trip" under the epidemic.
