Vaccidrive: it is now possible to get vaccinated while driving your car

2021-04-13T08:28:53.162Z

Imported from the United States, a first vaccination center for motorists opened its doors in France, near Montpellier, with the aim of vaccinating 1,000 people per week.

After the PCR tests at the wheel, it is the turn of the vaccination to come directly to the driver.

Building on its success abroad, the "vaccidrive" made its arrival in France on Tuesday, April 13, with the opening of the first vaccination center reserved for motorists in the parking lot of the Clinique Saint-Jean, in Saint-Jean- de-Védas, along the A9, near Montpellier (Hérault).

The operation is simple.

After seeing a doctor for a video consultation and making an appointment on Doctolib, anyone eligible for vaccination - open to people over 55 since April 12 - can go to this vaccination center while remaining in their car.

Welcomed by a doctor, a nurse and a secretary, the patient must present a QR code validated by his attending physician, his vital card as well as proof of his accessibility to vaccines.

It can then be auscultated before being vaccinated.

The observation period of 15 minutes after the injection is guaranteed in order to detect possible side effects.

With an injection every 10 minutes, according to forecasts by Laurent Ramon, France hopes to accelerate the vaccination campaign to reach the 30 million people vaccinated by June.

Not at home but not in a completely foreign universe, vaccidrives "

can be reassuring for some

", presented, on BFMTV, Laurent Ramon, general manager of the group Cap santé, owner of the Clinique Saint-Jean.

"

We plan to vaccinate 1000 new people per week

" and thus double the number of doses administered in the region.

"

And even more if we open another avenue,

" added the director of Cap Santé, hoping that the French adhere to the device as much as the Americans, Italians, Germans or even Indians, who already benefit from a driving vaccination.

For all governments, the challenge is to vaccinate quickly and on a large scale.

An objective to which the “vaccidrives” installed abroad meet, as evidenced by the long queues which extend over several kilometers.

In Colombia, near Bogotá, where such a center has been set up, motorists can wait several hours before receiving a dose.

Cradle of the concept, the United States has opened several “vaccidrives”, as in Louisville, Kentucky (west of the country), where 68 tracks welcome hundreds of motorists who are waiting for a dose of vaccine against the Covid-19.

If the experience of Saint-Jean-de-Védas turns out to be positive, the device could extend over the whole territory as in Valenciennes where the mayor, Laurent Degallaix, has already said to install a "vaccidrive" on the parking lot at the Valenciennes hospital center.
