What is true in grocery retail now.

Munich - rule-confused-warr about lockdown and corona emergency brake: The Federal Cabinet and Chancellor Angela Merkel agreed on Tuesday to extend the lockdown until May 9th.

In addition, a nationwide uniform emergency brake from a 7-day incidence of 100 will soon come into force.

The Bundestag and Bundesrat still have to approve the planned amendment to the Infection Protection Act.

Among other things, the emergency brake provides for the closure of shops as well as cultural and leisure facilities - and also affects the food retail sector.

Corona emergency brake pulled: Fewer people allowed at Aldi, Lidl, Edeka and Co.

(Almost) all shops have to close again.

Exceptions still apply to grocery stores, beverage stores, drugstores, bookstores, flower shops, garden centers, pharmacies, health food stores, baby stores, medical supply stores, opticians, hearing aid acousticians, petrol stations, newspaper sales points, and animal feed markets.

The sale of goods that go beyond the usual range of the respective shop is prohibited.

In shops that are still open, a new customer limit applies to a sales area of 800 square meters.

One customer is allowed per 20 square meters of sales area.

Up to now, 10 square meters per customer was usually sufficient.

If the total sales area of a shop is more than 800 square meters, there is a limit of one customer per 40 square meters of sales area.

Basically: The minimum distance of 1.5 meters between customers must be guaranteed in a shop.

Corona emergency brake: mask requirement, quick tests and changed opening times

As before, customers must wear an FFP2 or medical respiratory protection mask in closed rooms.

What is new, however, is a requirement for corona test offers in companies.

The amended occupational safety and health ordinance stipulates that companies with higher customer contact - including grocers - must provide their employees with two corona rapid tests per week.

Because a curfew has been imposed for the period from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., grocery stores that are actually open longer than 9 p.m. have to close early.

The serving and delivery of food and drinks is still permitted.

However, quick snacks are still not allowed to be consumed directly on site or in the vicinity of the sales stand.

In addition, to-go sales are prohibited between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

These measures apply from a 7-day incidence of 100 and become ineffective again if the threshold value is fallen below on five consecutive days.
