In Ecuador, the prosecution detained Pablo Celi, the acting comptroller general of the State, and the former secretary of the presidency José Augusto Briones, along with seven other people.
This, in the framework of an investigation opened in 2019 for suspicions of organized crime related to alleged acts of corruption in the state oil company Petroecuador.
In an interview with Fernando del Rincón, the president-elect, Guillermo Lasso, said that he is surprised by the raids in Quito and Guayaquil and added that he will "always be on the side of the fight against corruption."
