On Friday, an old man was betrayed by two fake police officers.

Now the police are looking for witnesses and clues.

Fürth - A pensioner from Fürth was cheated of a large sum of money by telephone on Friday (April 9th).

At around 10.15 a.m., a suspected fraudster reported to the man and pretended to be a police officer.

The caller involved the injured party in a conversation, as the police headquarters in Middle Franconia * announced.

In the course of this, he asked the person he had called if he would like to help catch a Romanian gang of thieves.

Although the senior was skeptical at first, he was then convinced by the fraudsters' professional persuasion that the real police had actually called him.

As instructed by the fraudster, the man then went to his bank in Fürth * Stadeln and withdrew a five-figure sum of money.

He put the money in a brown envelope.

The fraudsters directed him by telephone to the parking lot of a supermarket branch in Stadelner Hauptstrasse at the corner of Werkstrasse.

There he put the envelope on the tire of his car, a gray Kia, at around 1 p.m. and went to the supermarket.

When he returned to his vehicle a short time later, the money had already been picked up by the unknown perpetrator.

The Nuremberg commissioner for trick fraud has now taken over the investigation into the matter.

In particular, the police are looking for witnesses who were in the parking lot of the supermarket branch at the time of the crime or who were shopping there.

Who saw a suspicious person in the parking lot?

In particular, who noticed a person who was constantly on the phone and watching the parking lot?

Who has seen a person pick up a brown envelope from a vehicle tire?

Who noticed an outside vehicle near the area?

The criminal police asks witnesses who have made suspicious perceptions to contact the Criminal Police Service (KDD) Middle Franconia on 0911 / 2112-3333.

In the video: Police Headquarters Middle Franconia explains how to protect yourself from false police officers

To protect against perpetrators who falsely pretend to be police officers, the Central Franconia Police Headquarters created a video clip on the scam "false police officers".

This shows how the perpetrators proceed and also explains how potential victims can protect themselves from fraud:

In connection with the current case, the police are asking bank employees in particular to explicitly point out the scams in the event of unexpected cash withdrawals by elderly customers.

In case of doubt, the police asks bank employees to inform the police independently to protect customers from fraud.
