On Tuesday, the railway presented the route for the Brenner northern inlet through the Rosenheim Inntal.

A comment on this:

One cannot really blame the railway for a lack of sensitivity when planning the northern access to the Brenner.

She approached her critics in the Inn Valley with a number of dialogue forums, took suggestions for changes seriously and, in the end, actually embraced the region by choosing the route with the highest proportion of tunnels.

That wasn't planning with a crowbar!

And yet: If you watch the line animation video of the railway, you get a queasy feeling: The new line often leads close to courtyards and small villages.

All concerns about eliminating all conflicts will not succeed - unless the 54-kilometer route is completely buried.

However, this is an illusion - because it is too expensive.

The real hurdle is already apparent: the financing: the up to 7.2 billion euros for the mega-project have not yet been approved - and whether the federal government, which has to shoulder the pandemic follow-up costs, is responsible for something that is purely for freight transport In a few years, the railway line can still loosen billions is far from being established.

For comparison: the construction would be twice as expensive as the second main route in Munich and would compete in terms of size with “Stuttgart 21” and even the high-speed route Munich – Berlin.

This is the greatest opportunity for fundamental critics, of whom - make no mistake - there are many in the Inn Valley: With ever new demands, ever longer tunnels, noise protection expenses and lawsuits, they can drive up costs to such an extent that the project at some point is collected.
