Washington intervened to put the dispute between neighbors under cover.
On March 10, the Jewish state refused Prince Hussein Ben Abdallah access to its territory following a dispute between security services.
The heir to the Hashemite throne wanted to go to the Esplanade des Mosques in Jerusalem.
The site has been managed for nearly a century by Jordan.
It houses the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa mosques.
It is considered by Muslims as the third holiest site in Islam.
It is also sacred to Judaism, which calls it the Temple Mount, in reference to the ancient Temple in Jerusalem which stood there until its destruction by the Romans.

The conflict was due, according to Israeli sources, to the level of armament of the Jordanian guards in charge of the protection of Hussein Ben Abdallah.
He was followed the next day by retaliation from Amman.
