People suffer from loneliness.

This became particularly clear once again during the corona pandemic.

The measures that have been taken to protect the residents of old people's and nursing homes are often a great burden for them.

The architects Victoria Schweyer and Jana Wunderlich want to counteract this.

Krailling

- In their “project picking” they investigate the question of how old people's homes open up to the outside world, how new places of communication can arise.

The two guest lecturers at the Technical University of Munich have chosen the Caritas nursing home Maria Eich in Krailling as a "playground" for their students.

Under the title “Good Places”, around 20 seminar participants were asked to design communication architectures in collaboration with the residents of the home.

In the course of the last semester, they conducted 150 interviews.

The result can be seen in the Caritas nursing home until April 28th: twelve lovingly crafted models in which the students tried to creatively implement the wishes of their interviewees.

"You have got a lot of feedback here in the house", is how home manager Diana Sturzenhecker sums up the reaction of residents, visitors and employees.

The first meeting has already taken place

It shouldn't stop with the models: Jana Wunderlich and Victoria Schweyer want to turn at least some of the ideas into reality with their protégés.

The first meeting took place on Tuesday on site.

After everyone had undergone a rapid corona test, they were warmly welcomed by Diana Sturzenhecker and the head of social support Durdica Stjepanovic in the garden of the home.

While the students took action with plans and measuring tapes, the home manager thanked them again for their commitment.

And that is unusual indeed.

As far as possible, the architects and their protégés want to implement the projects themselves together with the university's workshop.

Hopefully this will save a lot of money.

Because the whole thing is not really in the budget at the moment, Sturzenhecker admits frankly.

But try to support the project with everything “we can do for you”.

"We are ready for any outrage," said the home manager.

Some people have already expressed their interest in sponsoring the project.

She is hoping for a lot of donations.

"Small cattle also make crap," the home manager is confident.

The home management and the architects agree: which of the designs is now considered is of secondary importance.

It is important that the idea of creating a meeting place in the garden is realized.

The students now have a week for corresponding “short drafts”.

Then you want to get down to work quickly, so that at the end of the semester and thus still during the summer you will be finished with one or more meeting places in the garden of the Caritas nursing home.
