Even if it means restoring the cathedral, you might as well tackle its immediate surroundings, including the large square in front of the monument.
This Thursday afternoon, in the Council of Paris, Anne Hidalgo will present a development project for the surroundings of Notre-Dame de Paris, which belong to the city.

If the project is voted in council, the improvements will concern the large square, the Jean-XXIII and Île-de-France squares, the upper and lower quays, and the adjacent streets (du Cloître-Notre-Dame, de la City and the Archdiocese).
The car park, located below the square, and also belonging to the city, could be removed, in favor of reception or interpretation spaces.
Today, all these spaces, considers the mayor in her draft deliberation,
"appear as frozen and undoubtedly too oriented towards tourism".
