The United States has given up on deploying two warships this week in the Black Sea via the Turkish straits, in the midst of tensions between Ukraine and Russia, Turkish officials and media said on Wednesday.

Turkish diplomatic sources said that the planned passage of a first American ship on Wednesday did not take place.
According to the state-run Anadolu news agency, which quotes other Turkish officials, the deployment scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday has been canceled and Ankara has not been informed of a possible postponement.
