37 years after working for Israel, Yonatan Pollard, who in the 1980s served as an Israeli spy in the heart of the American intelligence system, tonight (Wednesday) celebrated independence for the first time in the State of Israel.
Pollard and his wife Esther were sitting in a restaurant in Music Square and aroused great excitement among the celebrants, who sang in their honor.
The crowd sang to Pollard: "And boys returned to their border," and he, moved to tears, sang with the crowd that greeted him.
Pollard said excitedly: "I have fought for this all these years. It is a great privilege for me to be here in Jerusalem and to celebrate the State of Israel's Independence Day."
