The injury of Lt. Col. A. 15 years ago, in one of the most recognizable and dramatic battles of the Second Lebanon War, suddenly cut short his dream of a combat career.

At the beginning of the summer of 2006, he was a young captain, a company commander in one of the infantry brigades, and then the war began.

A. entered with his fighters into an area where many fighters were hit in an encounter with a large Hezbollah force.

The goal: to rescue them.

"I have seen commanders attacking at the head of the force, fighters rescuing wounded under fire. Dedication and heroism that have no second," he recalls.

Quite a few fighters and officers were killed and wounded in the battle.

During the fighting, while attacking the terrorists, A. was seriously wounded.

But it was a difficult and challenging road.

After a year and a half of surgery and rehabilitation, A. returned to the framework of a combat battalion, but soon realized that his qualifications, as an outstanding athlete before the injury, had deteriorated severely.

With great sorrow parted from the warrior lineup.

"This decision was accompanied by tears," he admits, "as a young commander I wanted to get as high as possible, to the most senior position I could, and already as a teenager it was clear to me that the army would be the most significant thing in my life story. So when I left combat, I had great difficulty."

The dilemma was difficult - whether to leave the IDF altogether, or to try another option within the army. After much deliberation, he arrived at the Armed Forces, and his fear of finding himself in a meaningless position was soon dispelled.

The memories are floating

Fifteen years after his injury, he is now an outstanding officer with the rank of lieutenant colonel in the unit, 8200 head of industry in the field of technology and cyber and one of the leaders of the intelligence matching revolution for a fighter. Today he uses future technology to defeat the most burning threats to Israel.

"It's hard to know what would have happened if I had not been injured," he shares, "I hope I would continue to lead fighters, but in a sense, what I am doing today is a continuation of that aspiration from a different angle - both operationally and socially. I learned that Unit 8200 Serve super-talented, dedicated and valued people, who express all their abilities 24 hours a day, and unlike in the past - not only report intelligence, but redesign it. The unit's soldiers are everywhere, influencing reality and providing tremendous assistance to units. The Warriors. "

He is still struggling with his injury, but has learned to live alongside the limitation and continues to exercise himself in military service.

These days, ahead of Remembrance Day, the memories from the battle are floating around more and more.

"Every Memorial Day I plow the State of Israel length and breadth, and in fact Memorial Day for me is two days, to reach as many families as possible. Some have over the years, in a way, become my second families. A battle of this kind becomes part of your life," concludes A.
