- The award of the "Freedom Prize of the Media" is the highlight of the Ludwig-Erhard-Summit every year, which the publishers Christiane Goetz-Weimer and Wolfram Weimer have established at the Tegernsee.
Due to the corona, however, the ceremony will take place in a new, digital form this year: Instead of a congress at Tegernsee, which usually takes place in January as the "start of the year for decision-makers" with many celebrities, the summit will be held for the first time as a television and streaming format.
It will be broadcast on May 11th and 12th from the Bavaria Filmstudios in Munich.
According to a press release from the Weimar Media Group, “the TV production is based on a strict hygiene and corona test concept”.

The ceremony to award the “Media Freedom Prize 2021” can only be followed on the screens.
As has now become known, this time Sebastian Kurz, Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria, will be presented with the award.
Kurz thus joins a number of well-known prize winners: So far, Mikhail Gorbachev, Reinhard Cardinal Marx and Prince Albert II of Monaco have received the "Freedom Prize of the Media".
The jury's reasoning for awarding the award states, among other things: “Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has repeatedly shown himself to be a bridge builder in his political career.” The committed European politician has acted in the past as a “reconciler of different interests and world political views”.
The 34-year-old also received the “Freedom Prize of the Media” because, as an exceptional communicator, he succeeds in keeping dialogues open, avoiding exclusion and communicating openly even in crisis situations such as terrorist attacks or the pandemic and strengthening the reconciling forces of society ".

The "Freedom Prize of the Media" is being awarded for the seventh time.

Prime Minister Söder opens the Ludwig Erhard Summit in 2021
The Ludwig-Erhard-Summit, which last took place in January 2020 in the Bachmair-Weissach-Arena, will be opened this year by Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder.
