Created at the fall of the Berlin Wall in May 1990, at the initiative of François Mitterrand, to support the transition to a market economy in Eastern European countries, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development ( Berd) has since extended its intervention areas to Central Asia and around the Mediterranean.
For its 30th anniversary, its president, Odile Renaud-Basso, takes stock of the economic transformations carried out in these countries.

Yes, even if in many of our countries of operations, in the Balkans or in Eastern Europe, the second wave was much stronger than the first in terms of health.
Everywhere we anticipate a rebound in the economy, of the order of 3 to 4% this year, with all the same substantial question marks, linked in particular to the very unequal access to vaccines.
This can delay the recovery.
