The ceremony was held this year in the shadow of a storm over the non-awarding of the prize to Prof. Oded Goldreich by Education Minister Yoav Galant, after he was on the list of winners.

This is against the background of an appeal by the right-wing movement "If You Will" which revealed that Prof. Goldreich supported, through a petition, a boycott of Ariel University.

The bride of the Israel Prize, director and film actress Michal Bat-Adam, protested this week during the filming of the ceremony against the decision not to award Prof. Goldreich the prize.

While receiving the figurine, a human being approached the microphone and said that "I am very happy to receive the award. And I am very sad that we are four and four tonight, because one winner is missing here."

The High Court last week accepted the Education Minister's request to examine whether he could refuse to award the Israel Prize in Mathematics and Computer Science to Prof. Goldreich. High Court judges supported Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit's position on the issue.

About two weeks ago, Goldreich signed a petition of academics from Israel and around the world calling on the European Union not to allow research programs appointed by it to collaborate with Ariel University.

The High Court ruled that Goldreich was behind the signing of the petition, but that he made it clear that he did not support the BDS movement. "Given all this, we believe that the Minister of Education should be allowed to review matters and make a decision within a month. The High Court ruled.

Galant decided not to award him the prize.

About a month ago, another storm broke out with the publication of an investigation in Haaretz in which evidence was published according to which former ZKA chairman Yehuda Meshi Zahav, who was declared the winner of the Israel Prize about a week earlier, allegedly sexually assaulted children, boys and women.

Golden Silk decided to give up receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award for contributing to society and the state.

Following the investigation, the Intelligence and Investigations Division of the police began an investigation into the allegations.

Golden Silk has denied the allegations against him.
