BRUSSELS-SANA- NATO announced that it will withdraw its forces from Afghanistan by the first of next May in Palto

Brussels-Sana

NATO announced that it would withdraw its forces from Afghanistan by the first of next May, in parallel with a similar move to withdraw American forces.

NATO’s move came immediately after US President Joe Biden announced yesterday that US forces “will withdraw from Afghanistan next September,” indicating that NATO countries will also withdraw their forces by May 1, provided that the withdrawal process will take place within a few months.

The French Press Agency quoted NATO as saying that "its member states decided to start withdrawing their forces from Afghanistan by the first of next May."

In a similar step, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced today that his country will follow the example of the United States to withdraw its forces from Afghanistan, indicating that the remaining Australian forces in this country will complete their withdrawal next September.

Previously, Australia participated with more than 15 thousand soldiers in the framework of the NATO forces in Afghanistan, but only 80 military personnel remain of these forces.

Britain and Germany announced yesterday their intention to withdraw from Afghanistan, in conjunction with Washington's plans to reaffirm their commitment to the dictates of the United States and to move according to the steps they draw.

It is noteworthy that Biden announced earlier to postpone the withdrawal of his forces from Afghanistan from May to the 11th of next September, citing that adherence to the previous date "is difficult."

The successive US administrations used to retreat from prior announcements to withdraw their forces from the countries they occupy under various pretexts.
