David Patterson was sentenced to life imprisonment this Thursday by the Seine-et-Marne Assize Court in Melun.

The sentence was accompanied by a safety period of 22 years and socio-judicial monitoring without time limit.

The Assize Court accepted the alteration of its judgment, while excluding the benefit of the reduced sentence.

David Patterson was convicted of murder and attempted murder.

Since March 30, this 36-year-old inhabitant of La Ferté-sous-Jouarre has been appearing for having thrown his BMW against the terrace of the Cesena pizzeria, in Sept-Sorts, on August 14, 2017. His criminal act had caused the death of ' Angela, a 13-year-old girl, seriously injured a dozen people.

The day before, Advocate General Eric de Valroger had requested life imprisonment, accompanied by a 22-year security sentence and socio-judicial monitoring without duration in time.

For their part, the civil party lawyers had reconsidered the sometimes irreversible consequences on their clients.

"An attack on their lives" for the victims

Me Lucile Levet reminded us from the outset: “It is sometimes difficult to admit that we are a victim, when we have not been physically injured and we have invisible psychological wounds.

Difficult to find its place in a lawsuit, where a family has lost a child and families are seriously affected.

”Not easy either for the managers of the restaurant to seize this status.

Their lawyer, Me Jean-Charles Negrevergne, spoke of their “fear” that they would be “blamed” on the security around their pizzeria.

Me Clotilde Lepetit pleaded for the waitress hit by the car: “She was 20 years old, with a permanent contract and an apartment.

She was emerging from a heartache but nothing to prevent the carefree 20 years.

Dying was not for her yet.

In a matter of seconds, everything became different.

David Patterson's open eyes are tattooed without consent into his head.

She still cannot rejoice in living.

"

According to Me Florence Pain, "for the victims, it was an attack on their life": "Every human being goes through hardships.

Except when discernment is abolished, one remains in control of one's life.

The accused's sister started therapy.

Him, faced with his difficulties, he refused this treatment.

He made the choice to relieve his suffering by embarking on a murderous journey.

Me Komi Nomenyo spoke very harsh words against David Patterson, convinced that he was lying.

Me Emily Gallion explained how her clients - the badly bruised Fillion family - were “disappointed” by David Patterson's responses: “For them, he has a manipulative side.

He had the lucidity to defend himself when he was threatened with death, on the spot.

He says he closed his eyes so as not to see the horror?

My clients have seen the horror.

Me François Laburthe praised the humanity of these “people who came to help others”: “How magnificent is the guilt of the victims, who say to themselves:

I could have done better.

"In his eyes, Sept-Sorts is not a" crazy story ":" His bizarre behavior is before he got it, not after.

Since childhood, David Patterson has presented himself as a victim.

He is an orphan and has made it his calling card.

"

"Bury the dead and repair the living"

Me Bogos Boghossian said he was "disturbed" by "this tendency to reverse the roles": "We have an accused who puts forward difficulties, annoyances and withdrawal to justify his act and pass himself off as a victim.

As if it was inevitable and he couldn't fight.

And on the other, we have civil parties who feel guilty of being victims.

"

Me Mazon, him, carried "five voices but four devastated lives", those of the Jakov family: "Angela (

Editor's note: killed by the car

), it is a life destroyed not by an accident or disease, risks that we fear but accept.

It is a life slaughtered by a man's decision and for his satisfaction.

"

Referring to the perpetual sadness that sometimes jumps out at you, the irreversible absence and the poison of guilt inoculated by David Patterson, he described a “wonderful family” that has entered the world of hospitals and justice head-on: “They want to say that they made the decision together to go to a restaurant.

Sasha Jakov saw herself coming out of the church with her daughter on her arm, for her wedding.

He left the church with her for her funeral.

"Before hoping:" We must bury the dead and repair the living.
