(CNN) -
An 18-year-old from Ohio faces weapons charges after agents patrolling a Times Square subway station in New York found him with an AK-47 rifle and a loaded magazine, according to the policeman.
Saadiq Teague, of the Winchester Canal near Columbus, was arrested Friday afternoon, the New York Police Department reported.
Teague was sitting charging his phone in the subway station and had the AK-47 unloaded in front of him, a law enforcement source with direct knowledge of the situation told CNN on condition of anonymity.
The teen also had a gas mask with him, the source said.
Police have not said why the teen had a full gun and magazine.

NYPD said they seized an AK-47 from a teenager in the Times Square subway station.
"This story may have had a different and tragic ending, but thanks to these cops it ends with the suspect in handcuffs," Shea tweeted on Friday.
Teague is charged with multiple counts of criminal possession of weapons, according to the New York Police Department.

CNN was unable to identify Teague's attorney, but reached out to Legal Aid to see if they are representing him.
However, Teague may not yet have been assigned an attorney because the arrest is very recent, Legal Aid's Red Haskins told CNN.
CNN reached out to Teague's family in Ohio and the Manhattan district attorney's office for comment.
