The Royal Family in Britain today (Saturday) held the funeral of Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth's husband who died last week at the age of 99. The ceremony was not open to the public, and only 30 people attended.

Queen Elizabeth came to St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle to attend the funeral, and was seen in public for the first time since announcing her husband was dead, after 73 years of marriage.

At the beginning of the ceremony there was a minute of silence, which was also observed throughout the mourning kingdom.

The Duke of Edinburgh's coffin made its way to the chapel accompanied by members of the royal family.

At Philip's request, the ceremony was not defined as stately, so no public procession took place with the duke's coffin.

Although the ceremony included characteristics of royal majesty, due to the restrictions of the corona, the rules of social distance were retained.

The queen, dressed in black, sat alone throughout the funeral.

Philip's coffin was carried inside a Land Rover, designed and cared for by him, into the chapel. On the coffin was a flag representing the family lineage of the prince, who was born in Greece, his navy hat, sword and flowers. At the same place, his grandson Prince Harry and Megan Merkel married in 2018. While pregnant Megan remained in the United States, Harry himself came from Los Angeles to attend the ceremony, along with his older brother Prince William. They did not walk together towards the chapel, with their cousin Peter Phillips, Princess Anne's son, walking between them, but later conversations were observed.

The two brothers and their cousin marched alongside the coffin in a procession, led by their father Prince Charles and Princess Anne, the two grown children of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Behind them walked the two younger brothers, Princes Andrew and Edward. They were accompanied by the wives and owners of the royal family, with the exception of Megan Merkel, Harry's wife, who remained in the United States due to her pregnancy. An orchestra of musicians accompanied the procession with songs pre-selected by Philip.

William, Harry and the rest of the princes came to the funeral dressed in civilian clothes, rather than military uniforms, with estimates that the move was made so as not to create embarrassment due to Harry's retirement from royal life.

"We are here today in St. George's Chapel to entrust to God the soul of his servant Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh," said at the Windsor Dean's ceremony, David Conner.

"We were inspired by his unwavering loyalty to our Queen, his service to the British nation and Commonwealth, his courage, strength and faith."

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Woolby, said before the ceremony that "the Queen will act with extraordinary respect and extraordinary courage as she always does. And at the same time she is parting from someone who has been married to her for 73 years."

He said the funeral would resonate with millions of people around the world who lost loved ones during the plague.
