UN denounces inequality in vaccine distribution (February 2021) 1:17
(CNN Spanish) -
Faced with the shortage of vaccines, drugs, tests and other medical supplies to face the covid-19, the Bolivian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rogelio Mayta, proposed to ask the developed countries that have more vaccines an equitable distribution towards other nations, prioritizing those with the greatest needs or a greater impact of the pandemic.
"Only when we are all vaccinated will we be safe," Mayta said on his Twitter account.
Mayta also gave a press conference on the subject and asked the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to promote the adoption of prompt and timely measures to make more flexible and streamline international standards that protect the pharmaceutical industry.
For this reason, the Chancellor asks pharmaceutical companies that have patents for diagnostics, drugs and vaccines to take them into the public domain or issue voluntary authorizations in a timely manner, at no cost or with affordable and reasonable recovery costs.
In this way, countries will be able to achieve real access without exception, according to Mayta.
