The man was on the 2350 state road from Freising in the direction of Neufahrn at 2:25 p.m.

As witnesses observed, shortly after the Weihenstephan dairy, the man suddenly turned left on the opposite lane on a straight line and came a few meters further to the left of the road.

The car crashed into a tree.

Other road users were not endangered as there was no oncoming traffic at the time of the accident.

The 59-year-old was so seriously injured in the collision that he had to be flown to the Bogenhausen Clinic in a rescue helicopter.

The police suspect that the man had suffered a medical problem while driving and was therefore off the road.

First aiders pull casualties out of the wrecked car

The Freising fire brigade was on site with 15 emergency services.
