At 11:37 pm yesterday (17th), the police received a report from a man stating that his friend was lying unconscious in a room at the Emperor Hotel, 373 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai.

After rescuers arrived, they found that the man was not breathing, his pulse stopped, and he was confirmed dead on the spot.

The deceased was 33 years old. After preliminary investigation, the police found a small amount of suspected cocaine, "ice" and about 49 grams of suspected gamma-hydroxybutyric acid (commonly known as "G water") in the room, with a total value of about 1,930 yuan and two A suspected "curling", and summoned drug detection dogs to search the room.

The police subsequently arrested the deceased 27-year-old friend Chen. He was arrested on suspicion of "possession of dangerous drugs" and "possession of tools for drug use". The case is now being followed up by the Wan Chai Criminal Investigation Team.

According to police information, gamma-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB) is generally a colorless liquid, but sometimes in powder form.

It has a slightly salty taste and high water solubility.

GHB can inhibit the central nervous system and relieve anxiety in low doses.

However, if the dose is increased, its sedative effect can cause drowsiness and even coma or death.

There are reports from other places that hydroxybutyric acid was secretly mixed in drinks in an attempt to seduce women.

Since October 2001, GHB has been included in the Drug Schedule 1 of Chapter 134 of the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance.
