When eight people were killed during a mass shooting at a FedEx office in Indianapolis late Thursday, the news was compounded by a series of similar incidents that preceded it.

Since March 16, the day eight people were killed in three Atlanta-area spas, the United States has recorded at least 45 mass shootings, according to CNN reports and an analysis of data from the Gun Violence Archive (GVA, per its acronym in English), local media and police reports.

The United States has suffered at least 147 mass shootings in 2021, according to data from the GVA, a Washington-based nonprofit.

CNN considers a shooting to be mass if four or more people are shot, injured or killed, excluding the attacker.

The GVA has the same criteria.

These are the 45 incidents reported since March 16.
