The Institute of Microbiology of the San Francisco de Quito University, which analyzes the variants and new strains of covid-19 in Ecuador, reported this Friday night that the variant identified in the United Kingdom is predominant in the city of Quito, with up to 80% of the cases analyzed in some hospitals, while the variant identified in Brazil is already in the province of Loja.
In both cases, the two variants are already transmitted communally, as confirmed by the Institute.
CNN asked the Ministry of Public Health and the Communication Secretariat of the Presidency for a reaction on the most recent report from the Institute of Microbiology of the San Francisco de Quito University, but their communication representatives indicated that an analysis of the data is being carried out.
