Where to sleep in Copenhagen for less than 150 € a night? Our ten favorite hotels

2021-04-18T15:39:09.693Z

Overpriced the Danish capital? Yes ! If the slightest smørrebrød (open sandwiches) flirts around ten euros, accommodation prices are also soaring. Some addresses offer their rooms which, without sacrificing design or Danish "hygge", will save you from breaking the bank.

Kanalhuset, neighborhood spirit

Open in the turbulence of summer 2020, Kanalhuset is more than just a hotel. A kind of magnet attracting residents but also neighbors through many activities: yoga classes every morning and, depending on the calendar, drawing, dancing, knitting lessons… Discussions are encouraged during dinner (optional) community, every day at 7 p.m. A good-natured spirit floats in this 1754 building, a former orphanage bordering the Christianhaven Canal. The decoration pays homage to Danish design from the 1930s to 1970s: the furniture and objects were found at flea markets or bought in auction rooms. They brighten up the bar, the dining room, the 12 rooms and the 14 apartments equipped for long stays. We are far from hotel standardization.

The room to reserve:

located at the corner of the building, n ° 11 lets in a lot of light.

Small, it is ideal for a night or two.

The price:

Hotel Alexandra, design "museum-hotel"

And no longer the Alexandra hotel is 5 minutes from Tivoli and the Central Station.

David Doran / Press photo

Lovers of Danish design, this hotel is for you! For more than twenty years, Jeppe Mühlhausen has assembled an extraordinary collection of furniture from the greatest Danish designers (Jacobsen, Finn Juhl, Hans J. Wegner, Nanna Dotzel, Jens Risom…) from the middle of the last century. It is probably no coincidence: his grandfather directed the exhibitions of the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. Growing up in the midst of beautiful things, he shares them today with his hosts. The lobby is a nice introduction to its universe, a sort of living exhibition room. A question about a piece of furniture? The team, trained in the history of national design, will be happy to answer you, otherwise, pick up a specialized book from the library. The smaller rooms are decorated in a 1950s and 1960s style. The “Double Rooms De Luxe” (more expensive) are entirely dedicated to a designer.

Good to know, the hotel is 5 minutes from Tivoli and the Central Station.

Hotel SP34, creative from all sides

Inside, 118 rooms flourish, some of which are small and are dedicated to solo travelers. Press photo

It takes its name from the initials of its address "Sankt Peders stræde 34", a stone's throw from the famous pedestrian street Strøget. In the bohemian and vibrant “Latin Quarter”, the SP34 hotel brought together three buildings to form one in 2014. Inside flourish 118 rooms, some of which, small, are dedicated to solo travelers . Dressed in the clean Danish look, their furniture comes, for the most part, from the manufacturer Carl Hansen & Søn (known for having edited the creations of Hans J. Wegner). The "SP34" chair is directly linked to the place: it is a copy of an abandoned chair found in the cellar during the works. The SP34 has three restaurants and four bars as well as a private cinema with 24 seats.

Hotel Ottilia, the taste of hops

The Ottilia hotel is housed in the former brewery of the famous Carlsberg beer.

Press photo

Yesterday we brewed the famous Carlsberg beer, today we brew dreams. The Ottilia hotel is housed in the old brewery which operated from 1847 to 2008 before moving. Its 155 rooms and suites are spread over two buildings, one from 1881 and the other from 1969. The first has a turret worthy of fairy tales, the second has, on its facade, 64 giant golden clinker “capsules”. look at the brand's bottles. The rooms offer a good height of ceiling and decline an industrial style (concrete floor, bathroom tiles copied from the originals of the facade) mixed with warm materials (leather, soft rugs, silky fabric…). Sympathetic, Carlsberg made Ottilia beer only for sale at the hotel. It can be enjoyed at the bar or on the rooftop. The Carlsberg complex is worth especially for its grand architecture. We owe it to the son of the founder of Carlsberg, Carl Jacobsen,

seasoned

businessman

, visionary and art lover - his collection can be seen at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek.

Rye 115, like home

Copenhagen, the Rye 115 is a simple and warm address that we would gladly keep to ourselves.

Press photo

Located in a residential area, on two floors of an apartment building, the hotel looks… like an apartment. There floats a "home" atmosphere. He just changed hands in 2021. Hopefully he keeps the friendly and open spirit that animated the place thanks to the former owners. In the meantime, no (little) change in the decoration. The mottled furniture has remained the same and matches the creaky old parquet. On the bedroom side, most are covered with wallpaper giving them a nice vintage look. The bathrooms are on the landing as in the old town halls. But rest assured, there is enough of it so that you don't have to wait too long in the morning. A novelty: a small shop where you can find small hotel souvenirs: Danish ceramic objects, lamps, creams, chocolate ...

The room to book:

n ° 18 when traveling with the family: it has two double beds.

The price:

from € 80 for a single room and € 107 for a double room.

Bryggen Guldsmeden, longing for the great outdoors

Placed on Islands Brygge, the Bryggen offers, on one side the port, on the other the wild nature of Amager Strandpark. Press photo

Opened in 2020, the Bryggen is the latest addition to the Guldsmeden family, this Danish hotel chain. For its 212 rooms, the ecological commitment has been pushed a little further than in the other addresses. So you can sleep in peace on a camel hair mattress and roll up in an eco-responsible duvet and sheets. In the morning, you can sing happily in your shower, saving nearly 50 to 90% of your water consumption. Thanks NASA! It is thanks to this technology invented, it is said, for a mission to Mars, that this system was able to be developed. As for breakfast, it is of course organic.
