The approval in the Senate of Mexico to extend two years the mandate of Arturo Zaldívar as head of the Supreme Court of Justice of Mexico generated strong criticism inside and outside Mexico.
International organizations such as Human Rights Watch and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights affirm that the decision, which has yet to be voted on in the Chamber of Deputies, violates the Constitution and endangers the independence of the Judiciary.
