A huge band of thousands of winged girls was documented today (Tuesday) on the shores of Eilat.
These birds feed on water insects, mainly dragonflies, and visit Israel only once a year, usually in the area on April 20.
The person who documented them today is Noam Weiss, a senior birder at the Society for the Protection of Nature and the director of the Birding Park in Eilat on behalf of the Society for the Protection of Nature.
"One of the amazing things about the Meromot band is that they are all in their very special summer attire - black and white, and red legs," Weiss said.
"Throughout the year, we see quite a few left in winter attire, but among the thousands in the band, there is not even one."
