Daraa-Sana
The desert locust groups that were seen this morning in southern Busra al-Sham and the Samakiyat farm left the direction of Jordan due to weather factors.
The head of the prevention department in the Agriculture Directorate, Eng. Hassan Al-Smadi, indicated in a statement to SANA's correspondent that the agricultural mechanisms and cadres are ready to face any potential danger of locusts entering the governorate's lands, with the continuation of investigation and monitoring operations to conduct control in a timely manner in order to preserve the farmers' crops.
Al-Samadi indicated that the reasons for the locusts leaving the area are due to the shifting direction of the winds from the southeast to the northwest, and thus the return of the locusts towards the Jordanian lands.
In turn, the head of the extension unit in the Samakiyat, Abdul Salam Al-Samadi, explained in a similar statement that at seven in the morning, groups of locusts were spotted in the Samakiyat area by one of the area's farmers, so the agricultural cadres went to the place and it was noticed that there were large groups spread over a length of 2 km and a width of 200 meters that had been placed. Under surveillance for the afternoon hours to take appropriate control measures and due to the fluctuations of the weather, the desert locust left the area.
