Large areas of cultivated areas with wheat and barley crops in As-Suwayda for the current season were not harvested.
The Director of As-Suwayda Agriculture, Engineer Ayham Hamed, told the SANA reporter today that the areas that came out of the harvest to date amounted to about 70 percent for wheat and for barley about 80 percent of the areas planted with the crops, attributing this to the low rate of rainfall and its poor distribution throughout the months of the season because most of the field crops in the governorate are rainfed. Indicating that these rates are subject to increase in the event that no rain falls before the end of the current month.
The areas planted with wheat in As-Suwayda this season exceeded about 40,000 hectares and barley 22,000 hectares.
