After the drama in the Knesset - the prime minister presses in one main direction:

Tonight (Tuesday), Benjamin Netanyahu called on right-wing chairman MK Naftali Bennett to support the law for a direct election for prime minister.

"Let him announce tonight that he supports the law," Netanyahu said in a statement issued with Health Minister Yuli Edelstein, following the new vaccine purchase agreement with Pfizer and Moderna.

Netanyahu also attacked Bennett, saying he "prevents the formation of a right-wing government" and that Bennett "wants to be prime minister because of personal ambition."

"There is a solution to the political tangle. The solution is a direct election for prime minister - to let the public decide who will lead the country. There is a huge majority in the country that supports it, it crosses most parties in the Knesset. The recent elections proved the public wants a right-wing government," Netanyahu said.

"The Knesset has 65 seats of a clear right and the only reason why it is not possible to form a right-wing government now is personal and not ideological matters. Therefore there are two options: either to form a left-wing government with a right-wing fig leaf - with Meretz Of Bennett and Gideon Saar.

"The second option is to form a stable right-wing government for 4 years after the Bezeq election for prime minister so that the public can choose who will be the next prime minister. There is no need to dissolve the Knesset and there is no need for a fifth election, a quick referendum and let the people decide who will be prime minister. And I hope so will others.

"It can be done immediately - it depends on only one person, Naftali Bennett. If Bennett supports this proposal, there is a majority. There is no reason not to support it, he pledged to the right-wing government and pledged not to go under the torch and left. I met with him several times and offered him a seat. Senior Government official Unfortunately, although I received a mandate from the President to form a right-wing government, Bennett is simultaneously negotiating with us to form a left-wing government.

"This means that just because of a personal ambition to be prime minister with seven seats, Bennett will not let us exhaust the mandate and form a stable right-wing government. We also saw this last night when the 'right' voted in the Knesset against the right and the left. If Bennett really wants a right-wing government - He will announce today that he supports direct elections and we will get out of the mess. "

"Regarding RAAM - you do not need RAAM, you need a direct choice to form a government. It solves this whole question. There are only 2 options: either a left-wing government with internal contradictions, with a right-wing fig leaf, in stark contrast to the promises Bennett made in the election and against the will of the public, or a direct election to form a stable right-wing government. With that, we get out of the mess and we don't need other solutions either. "
