Update vom 17. April, 10.01 Uhr: Kurz vor der Beisetzung von Prinz Philip erinnert die Königsfamilie mit privaten Schnappschüssen aus dem Familienalbum an den verstorbenen Ehemann der Queen. Darunter das gemeinsame Hochzeitsbild, aber auch Familienfotos mit den Kindern Charles und Anne. Nun teilte Queen Elizabeth II. ein privates Bild mit ihrem Ehemann auf den sozialen Netzwerken.

Dazu steht geschrieben: „Die Königin möchte dieses private Foto mit dem Herzog von Edinburgh teilen, das 2003 auf dem Gipfel des Coyles of Muick in Schottland aufgenommen wurde.“ Und weiter unten: „Ihre Majestät und die königliche Familie sind dankbar für alle Beileidsbekundungen aus der ganzen Welt und sind gerührt, so viele Menschen zu sehen und zu hören, die liebevolle Erinnerungen an den Herzog teilen, um sein Leben zu feiern.“ Aufgenommen wurde das Bild laut der Beschreibung von Schwiegertochter Herzogin Sophie, der Ehefrau von Prinz Edward.

In der Nacht zum Samstag twitterte der Palast außerdem emotionale Worte: „Der Herzog von Edinburgh war ein liebender Ehemann und hingebungsvoller Vater, Großvater und Urgroßvater.“

Prinz Philips Beerdigung im Live-Ticker: Sarg-Detail und genauer Ablaufplan bekannt

Update 17. April 2021, 08.16 Uhr: Für die Trauerfeier ist inzwischen ein genaueres Ablaufprotokoll bekannt. Die offizielle Zeremonie wird um 15.45 Uhr deutscher Zeit beginnen. Doch schon um 15.40 Uhr wird der Sarg von Prinz Philip zur „State Entrance Hall“ gebracht. Wie bekannt wurde, birgt dieser eine besondere Geschichte.

Der verstorbene Prinz wird nämlich erst beigesetzt, wenn auch die Queen verstorben ist und bis dahin auf einer schwarzen Marmorplatte im königlichen Gewölbe aufgebahrt. In der Times äußerte sich nun Andrew Leverton, Direktor des königlichen Bestattungsunternehmens Leverton & Sons, zum genaueren Sarg-Modell. Er bestehe aus englischer Eiche und müsse mindestens schon 30 Jahre alt sein. Das Unternehmen habe diesen nämlich schon 1991 vom Bestattungsunternehmen JH Kenyon übernommen. Ebenso den der Queen. Über ein Fertigungsdatum kann daher keine Auskunft getroffen werden.

Leverton dazu: „Das ist nicht etwas, das man einfach an einem Tag oder in ein paar Stunden fertigen kann. Wir hatten das Gefühl, dass es wichtig sei, ihn verfügbar zu haben.“ Doch ein weiteres Detail macht den Aufbahrungsort von Prinz Philip besonders. Im Inneren befinde sich eine Schicht aus Blei. Sie sorge dafür, dass der verstorbene Körper länger konserviert bleibt.

Dieser Sarg wird in einem dafür umgebauten Land Rover zur St. Georges-Kapelle gefahren, die Trauergäste werden dahinter hergehen. Vertreter verschiedener Militärformationen werden den Weg säumen, Salutschüsse werden abgefeuert. Um 15.53 Uhr soll die Kapelle erreicht werden. Dort soll die Nationalhymne gespielt werden, bevor um 16.00 Uhr eine nationale Schweigeminute ansteht, bevor die Mitglieder der königlichen Familie und Prinz Philips Privatsekretär die Kapelle betreten werden. Der Gottesdienst soll rund 50 Minuten dauern.

Erstmeldung vom 16. April:
London - Prinz Philip wird am 17. April beerdigt. Die Zeremonie wird auf Schloss Windsor stattfinden, wo der Queen-Gemahl mit 99 Jahren am 9. April „friedlich eingeschlafen“ war.

Inzwischen werden immer mehr Einzelheiten dazu bekannt, wie die Trauerfeier ablaufen wird. Die verwitwete Königin Elizabeth II. (94) wird demnach bei dem Gottesdienst am Samstag alleine in der St.-Georgs-Kapelle in Windsor Platz nehmen. Bei einem Leichenzug im Schlosshof werden unter anderem die Kinder und Enkelkinder Philips dem Prinzgemahl das letzte Geleit geben*. Der Sarg wird dabei auf einem eigens umgebauten Land Rover transportiert.

Aufgrund der Beschränkungen der Corona-Pandemie dürfen nur 30 Personen an der Zeremonie teilnehmen. Prinz Philip hätte es wohl begrüßt: Vor seinem Tod habe er den Wunsch einer kleinen Trauerfeier geäußert. Diese wird zwar komplett hinter den Palastmauern stattfinden, aber auch live im Fernsehen übertragen werden.

Auf der Gästeliste der Veranstaltung stehen auch die beiden Prinzen Harry (36) und William (38), die ihrem Opa die letzte Ehre erweisen werden. Prinz Harry reiste dafür extra aus den USA an, seine hochschwangere Frau Meghan Markle (39) blieb jedoch zu Hause. Die beiden Brüder werden aber nicht Seite an Seite hinter dem Sarg hergehen, sondern getrennt von Peter Phillips, dem
Sohn der Queen-Tochter Prinzessin Anne. Wegen der Abstandsregelungen werden sie etwa vier Meter voneinander entfernt gehen. Es wurde spekuliert, dass die Queen hier auch eine bewusste Trennung schaffen wollte, da zwischen den Brüdern nach den Vorwürfen aus Harrys und Meghans Enthüllungs-Interview dicke Luft herrschen soll. Allerdings gingen die beiden Brüder auch schon 1997, bei der Beerdigung ihrer Mutter, Prinzessin Diana, nicht nebeneinander. Es kann sich also auch um eine Formangelegenheit des Hofes handeln. Es wird mit Spannung erwartet, ob das Aufeinandertreffen der Brüder zu einer Annäherung beitragen wird.

Unter den Gästen der Trauerfeier sind auch mehrere deutsche Verwandte Prinz Philips. Mit ihnen war der verstorbene Monarch über seine Schwestern verwandt: Bernhard Prinz von Baden, Herinrich Donatus Prinz von Hessen und Philipp Prinz zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg. Britische Medien werten das als Beweis, wie eng sich Prinz Philip dieser Verwandtschaft verbunden fühlte.

Wie ebenfalls bereits bekannt ist, werden die geladenen Gäste keine Uniformen auf Prinz Philips Beerdigung tragen. Harry wäre sonst der einzige Royal aus dem engeren Familienkreis in Zivilkleidung gewesen. Er musste seine militärischen Titel inzwischen abgeben. Stattdessen werden ein „Morning Coat“ oder „Cutaway“ als Kleidungsstücke empfohlen. Zusätzlich gilt die Maskenpflicht.

Musikalisch wird die Feierlichkeit von einem kleinen Chor aus vier Personen untermalt. Außerdem wird die Musik durch die Vertreter der Royal Navy und der Marine eine zentrale Rolle spielen.
