Niederhummel

- On Thursday evening, the maypole in Niederhummel was put down, decorated and cut up.

Only a six-meter-high pillar is reminiscent of the around 27-meter-high traditional tree that was hoisted in front of the fire station in 2018 as part of a hearty May festival.

"That is just bleak", commented the former shooting boss Rainer Schwarzbözl on the 30-minute event.

Actually, the Niederhummler Schützen around chairman Markus Felsl, who only followed in Rainer Schwarzbözl's footsteps in September 2020, had hoped that after the maypole festival last year, another May festival could be celebrated.

But not all: the corona pandemic does not allow celebrations and meetings.

"We would have loved to do it and have been planning for a long time," reports Felsl.

But nothing comes of it.

And so on Thursday the riflemen lowered their maypole with a crane and cut them into one-meter pieces with a chainsaw.

According to Schwarzbözl, these will be auctioned among the shooters at a price of 15 euros - "so that a little money comes into the till".

But even the auction can only take place digitally.

Chairman Markus Felsl hopes that this tragedy took place "this year for the last time" and that the whole village community can celebrate again next year.
