The Russian representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, Alexander Shulgin, confirmed that Western accusations of Syria regarding the use of chemical weapons were "fabricated and dictated by geopolitical interests."
Russia Today quoted Shulgin as saying during the “Truth and Lies About the Use of Chemical Weapons in Syria” symposium that took place prior to the twenty-fifth session of the OIC Member States ’Conference that the accusations directed against Syria are fabricated and dictated by the geopolitical goals of those countries that seek to achieve their narrow agendas on the Syrian issue. Pointing out that there is a great possibility that Western countries will try to pass the draft resolution on limiting Syria's rights under the pretext of its “violation” of the Chemical Weapons Convention.
Shulgin expressed his hope that the delegations that will start work tomorrow and discuss this issue "will be able to reach an independent opinion and make a responsible decision."
For her part, the head of the Syrian mission to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, Rania Al-Rifai, called on countries to reject the draft resolution prepared by Western countries, saying that it is "directed against the Syrian people."
Last Friday, the permanent representative of Syria to the United Nations, Bassam Sabbagh, confirmed that the French-Western draft resolution presented to the Conference of the States Parties to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons constitutes a new violation of the ban agreement and sets a dangerous precedent in the organization's work and promotes false conclusions with the aim of creating pretexts for committing aggressive acts against Syria. And encouraging terrorist organizations to fabricate new plays about the use of chemical weapons to accuse the Syrian Arab Army of them.
