At the end of a year that disrupted tax controls due to the health crisis linked to the coronavirus, Bercy collected some 7.8 billion euros in its fight against tax fraud, according to the announcements of the Ministry of Economy.

Over the whole of 2020, collections following a tax audit reached 7.79 billion euros, a level close to those of the year 2018 (7.73 billion euros)
", indicates a press release from Bercy, specifying that the recovery rate of sums due after control has improved.
Despite everything, a declining result if we compare it to the sums recovered in 2019. The year preceding the health crisis had indeed been a record for the tax authorities, which had been able to recover more than 12 billion euros thanks in particular to new tools of fight against fraud, following the example of a “
name and shame
” system (aimed at denouncing fraud) or even the
“tax police”
, stemming from the law against tax fraud.

In 2020, the fight against tax fraud was constrained by health measures.
The physical checks had to be suspended for several weeks.
365,000 checks were nevertheless carried out, according to information from RTL.
