Gérald Darmanin announced on Tuesday that he would receive the police officers injured in 2016 during the Molotov cocktail attack in Viry-Châtillon on Saturday, the appeal of which ended with a verdict criticized by the police unions.

And this, a few hours before a call to the police to demonstrate in front of the courts.

The Minister of the Interior argued on RTL that he "does not support demonstrations in front of the institutions".

"I never oppose police and justice," he continued, adding that "society and the state must support the police".

Judging that he was at the head of a "magnificent administration", he emphasized the fact that "11 police officers were killed last year".

Regarding the Viry-Châtillon trial, he noted that the injured police officers had been "recognized as victims".

“They were victims of barbaric acts”.

"I will receive them on Saturday morning to bring them the support of the government", he said, insisting on "the despicable facts" of which they were victims.

The police unions called on officials to gather at 12:30 p.m. in front of the courthouse in Paris, Île de la Cité, and everywhere in France, in front of the courts.

On the night of Saturday to Sunday, the Paris Assize Court for minors sentenced five young people to terms ranging from 6 to 18 years imprisonment and acquitted the other eight defendants, a verdict less severe than at first instance.

The accused faced life imprisonment.
