The battery the child swallowed
A three-and-a-half-year-old boy is hospitalized in critical condition after swallowing a game battery.
The boy arrived last night (Tuesday) at Assuta Hospital in Ashdod due to complaints of difficulty swallowing and breathing and upon admission to the emergency room it was found that he had swallowed a "foreign bone".
However, as a result of the materials from which the battery is constructed alongside the electrical conductivity that characterizes it, it has been clarified that there is actual damage to the esophagus that may even dilate into nearby blood vessels, thereby endangering the patient’s life.
The boy was rushed to the operating room, where the battery was successfully removed by Dr. Oren Leder, director of the gastro unit at the hospital, and Dr. Eitan Damari.
During the night the child was transferred in critical condition for further treatment at Schneider Hospital.
Dr. Noa Rosenfeld, director of pediatric intensive care: "This is a child who is in danger of death as a result of swallowing a foreign object.
A bone that, even after being removed, continues to harm the body as a result of the electrical conductivity and the inferior materials from which it is made. "
"Unfortunately, in recent years we have seen an increase in this type of vulnerability," she added.
"In my opinion, the source of this is the increasing import of games from China without any control and supervision over their quality by the Standards Institute."
