If it wasn’t sad, it would have been ridiculous:
a traffic cop arrested a deaf-mute driver for high-speed driving.
Although she does not hear or speak, the police officer wrote in the report her alleged verbal response. Due to his conduct, her license was not revoked and a plea bargain was made with her.
In July 2020, a traffic police officer detained a vehicle traveling above the speed limit in a laser gun test.
He found the leadership deaf and dumb.
According to police procedures, he must summon a sign language interpreter to explain to her the nature of the offense and back up her response.
But the policeman decided that it was not necessary: although the driver could not take a rudder out of her mouth, the policeman wrote in the part documenting the driver's words that she told him that "it is allowed to drive 110 km / h".
An indication of the policeman's problematic conduct can be obtained through the hearing held for the driver before a traffic officer, to which a sign language interpreter was summoned as required.
After the leadership expressed its claims through the interpreter, the officer finally decided not to revoke her 30-day administrative license.
Subsequently, an indictment was indeed filed against the driving for speeding.
Advocate Eran Damari, an expert in traffic law, decided to represent the leadership without collecting a fee.
In the end, the prosecution amended the indictment, in a lenient arrangement, and instead of a speeding offense that carries a fine of NIS 1,500 and 10 mandatory points, the driver was convicted of driving at an unreasonable speed, for which she was required to pay NIS 1,000 without points.
