At the request of the ÖDP / UWS, the district council decided to implement the new species protection law in the Weilheim-Schongau district as quickly as possible.

The aim is to set an example for local authorities and citizens.

District

- "The district does not have huge areas, but should set a good example," said Markus Kunzendorf (ÖDP / Oberhausen) in the reason for the joint resolution proposal of his party and the independents in the district council. The decline in biodiversity in the region is "worrying," he said. It is therefore necessary to act immediately and to implement the species protection law of 2019 in the district as well.

This includes that in the future, aspects of species and nature conservation should be taken into account when developing and awarding construction measures. In addition, newly created outdoor facilities around the district's own buildings are generally to be planted in the future, prioritizing native, insect and bird-friendly plants. According to the draft resolution, which was unanimously adopted, these include annual and perennial flowering plants such as meadow sage and woody plants such as linden, rock pear or hawthorn. The possibility of subsequent planting in all existing district-owned outdoor facilities should be examined within five years. And so that the administration does not lose sight of this, it was decided tothat the result of these audits should be presented to the district council once a year, including a cost estimate.

The seeds used for insect-friendly planting are said to come from native plants.

To collect it, you can use the LBV's “Wiesefix” seed collecting device.

Light pollution was also an important issue in the motion for a resolution by the ÖDP and the independents.

According to the application, this primarily affects the outdoor lighting of parking lots.

If at all possible, insect-friendly lighting should be installed.

"The lighting of parking areas, which is necessary for safety reasons, must, however, be guaranteed," said District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß.

Fortunately, the district does not have any buildings that are permanently illuminated.

Another point that has now been decided and must be implemented is the use of regionally and / or ecologically produced food and drinks in the district's own facilities, such as the two hospitals in Weilheim and Schongau. "By 2030, 30 percent of all food should come from organic farming," says the decision. Schools and hospitals should receive regular recommendations on how they can change their services accordingly.

In the meantime, the passage dealing with the roadside green has been deleted from the original application. "High costs would be associated with little benefit," reported Kunzendorf from a meeting with the administration. But the district administrator didn't want to leave it that way. There is an application on the subject of roadside green that has been in process for a few years and was submitted by Josef Taffertshofer (BfL / Wildsteig) at the time. "It will be presented and dealt with in the district council," promised Jochner-Weiß. That is why this topic was left out of the species protection application of the ÖDP / independents.
