The Department of Health used to provide vaccination services for primary school children, including measles, mumps and rubella vaccine; diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis and inactivated polio vaccine.

However, the new crown pneumonia epidemic has affected school children's vaccination, and some children or parents of school children have not taken their children to the Maternal and Child Health Center for vaccination in accordance with the recommended vaccination schedule.

The department stated that it has resumed to-school services, and also reminded parents to bring their toddlers or schoolchildren to the clinic for injections through phone calls, emails and text messages.

Chen Peiran, a member of the Medical Legislative Council, is concerned about the vaccination situation of the child vaccination plan under the new crown epidemic.

The Food and Beverage Department responded in writing that the suspension of face-to-face classroom arrangements has affected the vaccination of primary school children. At the same time, some parents did not bring their children to the Maternal and Child Health Center for vaccination in accordance with the recommended vaccination schedule.

According to the department, the staff and team of the Maternal and Child Health Center will contact pre-school children who have not yet received appropriate-age vaccination and parents of children who have progressed to Secondary One but have not completed the "plan" as soon as possible. To arrange vaccination, they can go to the group office or family doctor's clinic to arrange vaccination.

As for the vaccination service at school, starting in mid-May last year, under the principle of strengthening infection control, arrangements were made for school children to return to school or go to the group office to receive vaccination.

The data shows that in the past school year (2019/2020), the vaccination coverage rate of Primary One, Primary Five and Primary Six all exceeded 90%, while the human papillomavirus vaccine for female students in Primary Five was 86%. The number of inoculation doses exceeded 180,000 doses.
