Has the time of the rally come in the United States?

In any case, this is what US President Joe Biden wants to believe at the end of the trial which sentenced policeman Derek Chauvin on Tuesday for the murder perpetrated on African-American George Floyd on May 25.

"The guilty verdict will not bring George back", but this decision may be the time for "significant change", said the American leader in a solemn speech, calling on America to fight against racism that "taints" his soul.

“The time has come for this country to come together,” he summed up.

Like him, many public figures have spoken to welcome this court decision.

Kamala Harris, first black vice president in US history, said her “relief” in a speech following Joe Biden's.

“This does not take away the pain, however,” she qualified.

“Black Americans, especially black men, have been treated across this country as if they are not men.

[…] We still have to reform the system.

Shortly after the verdict, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris both called the Floyd family.

“We are all so relieved,” the American president told them.

“I would have liked to be there to hug you.

And Kamala Harris adds: "History will remember this moment."

Obama calls for "the fight" to continue

"Today a jury in Minneapolis did the right thing," wrote former US President Barack Obama.

However, "we can not stop there", estimated the first black president of the United States.

"True justice goes much further than a single verdict in a single trial," he added, calling for "the fight" to continue to fight racism and police violence.

Today, a jury did the right thing.

But true justice requires much more.

Michelle and I send our prayers to the Floyd family, and we stand with all those who are committed to guaranteeing every American the full measure of justice that George and so many others have been denied.

"Skin color still determines all too often how someone is treated in almost all spheres of American life," said another former US president, Bill Clinton.

"If the verdict does not bring us back George Floyd, it can help us prevent more senseless deaths and bring us closer to the day when we will all be treated the same," added the former Democratic President.

In the artistic sphere, singer Madonna welcomed the conviction of Derek Chauvin on her Instagram account.

“Justice for black America is justice for all of America,” she wrote in one story.

In American basketball, which has been particularly keen on supporting the Floyd family since the start of the affair, the reactions have been numerous.

The star player LeBron James posted on Twitter a sober message, "responsibility" whose capital letters reflect the importance in the eyes of the basketball player.

"Justice is done" for his part reacted Adam Silver, the boss of the NBA.

I was appalled by the death of George Floyd and welcome this verdict.

My thoughts tonight are with George Floyd's family and friends.
