Shopping can become a war of nerves in Corona times: An incident on Saturday in the Rewe Center in Geiselbullach showed how much.

Olching

- There were unsightly scenes because the shop in the checkout area was apparently so full that it was not possible to keep your distance.

A customer called the police - and this is not an isolated incident.

The Rewe Center in the Geiselbullach district of Olching is actually one of the largest grocery stores in the district.

It is well distributed here, one might think.

On Saturday afternoon, however, a customer experienced quite the opposite to her horror.

Rewe: queue across the whole store

The supermarket was so full that the line stretched from the cash register to the butcher shop - that is, across the shop.

“I waited an hour until it was my turn,” says the woman.

It was hardly possible to keep the prescribed minimum distance to protect against infection with the coronavirus.

And that with the increasing number of infections.

She felt very uncomfortable because of it and she wasn't the only one.

Several customers complained to the staff.

The main entrance was then closed, which in turn led to a crowd in front of the side entrance.

In the end, the customer could no longer watch this and called the Olching police.

She checked everything and couldn't find any violation.

Supermarket in the corona pandemic: complaints keep coming back

For Vice Inspection Manager Winfried Naßl it is nothing new that customers' nerves are on fire in the pandemic.

"About once a week we are called to a supermarket because supposedly distances are not being adhered to." All grocery stores are affected by this.

Germering's police spokesman Andreas Ruch knows the problem.

“That happens again and again.

Even if customers supposedly don't wear a mask. ”Complaints about insufficient space in the fruit and vegetable department are also popular.

In the first wave, however, this was even more serious.

Police called to Rewe: tricky business for officials

A tricky matter for the police: In terms of time alone, it is usually not possible to assess the situation for which one was called.

The mask grumpy may have long since left the supermarket and there is not as much going on with fruit as it was before.

"We therefore see the staff as being responsible," said Ruch.

In the case of the Bruck police, the complaints are a bit different: "It is mainly people who report to us because shops are open that, in their opinion, shouldn't be open at all," says spokesman Michael Fischer.

Rewe justifies Enge: It is due to the rebuilding of the cash registers

The Geiselbullach case is a special challenge for everyone involved.

The problem: According to the branch manager, there were even fewer people than allowed in the store on Saturday, 300 of 500 possible customers in the area of around 9,000 square meters.

But: The store has been rebuilt for a long time, now it's the turn of the cash registers.

In other words: currently only seven instead of twelve pay stations can open.

And that will continue for some time.

“The eye of the needle will remain for the time being.” That would be a challenge at normal times, especially at peak times.

Rewe branch manager faced with a difficult question: keep waiting outside?

The situation leaves the supermarket boss relatively perplexed.

"How I do it, I do it wrong," he says.

The only alternative would be to keep people waiting outside whatever the weather.

"But then nobody comes into the shopping center who wants to go to the lottery shop or the hairdresser."

There have always been complaints about corona violations in the past.

The branch manager of the Rewe Center appeals to the common sense of the customers: "You don't have to go shopping with the whole family on Saturday." the display can see.

"But everyone is pressed for it."

Another Rewe supermarket in Bavaria recently had a major corona outbreak.

At another branch, a customer was amazed when she unpacked her shopping.
