Impfturbo in Passau: Almost every second person will soon have their first dose

According to the city administration, this quota of almost 40 percent means that every resident of the city of Passau in Lower Bavaria who is willing to vaccinate could make an appointment as early as next week.

According to the town hall, the reason for the high vaccination speed is the cooperation between the vaccination center and the general practitioners.

Because in the city - unlike in many other districts - they had already been involved in the process since the vaccination started.

The special delivery before Easter with 1,600 additional doses of vaccine for the border region should also have played a major role in the speed.

In Passau, herd immunity of at least 60 percent is within reach

According to the administrative director of the vaccination center, Erik Linseisen, it cannot otherwise be clearly stated why things are going faster in Passau than in other cities.

The priority list * was followed regularly, which means that mainly older people were the first to act.

According to Passau's Mayor Jürgen Dupper (SPD), the likelihood of herd immunity against the coronavirus * is within reach in autumn at this speed.

Given the current number of infections, at least 60 percent of the population would have to be fully vaccinated by the end of summer.

Passau had previously announced that it would give all willing over 60 years of age the opportunity to receive a vaccination with Astrazeneca * without an appointment.
