A submarine belonging to the Indonesian Navy goes missing north of Bali.
The submarine »KRI Nanggala-402«, built 40 years ago in Germany, has presumably sunk, the newspaper »Kompas« quotes the military spokesman Hadi Tjahjanto.
The contact was broken in the early hours of the morning (local time), then the submarine disappeared about 95 kilometers from the island of Bali.
It is possible that it is in a trough on the sea floor at a depth of about 700 meters, it said.
As the news agencies AP and Reuters unanimously report, there are 53 people on board.
According to Reuters, the submarine had previously participated in a military exercise.
The results of the maneuver were then no longer transmitted by the crew.
The Indonesian Navy is in action with warships.
In addition, Singapore and Australia were asked for help in the search because they had submarine rescue ships.
According to Reuters, the "KRI Nanggala-402" was built in 1978 in the German Howaldts works.
In 2012 the submarine was in South Korea for two years of maintenance work.
In recent years, according to Reuters, there have been several fatal accidents in the Indonesian military due to outdated equipment.
