The city of Munich is getting new bike lanes.
In any case, the work on a former Pop-u-Radweg has already started.
The color has changed though.
Munich - Last year it was still an attempt, now several cycling projects are rolling out as a permanent solution.
Four of the routes that were tested as pop-up cycle paths are now long-term - and the marking work has already started on one, namely on Rosenheimer Strasse between Rosenheimer Platz and Orleansstrasse (Haidhausen).
The right-hand lane is converted into cycle lanes in both directions.
According to the city, the work should take three weeks.
The color is initially white - but this is only a temporary solution.
How the bike paths will be designed in the long term will be decided in the course of the year.
Munich - New bike paths are being built here
Further new cycle paths are being built in Elisenstrasse between Lenbachplatz and Dachauer Strasse, Theresienstraße between Türkenstrasse and Schleißheimer Strasse and on Gabelsbergerstrasse between Arcisstrasse and Türkenstrasse.
However, according to the city, the road surface will first be rehabilitated there before the markings come.
The city council also wants a permanent cycle lane on Zweibrückenstrasse.
But construction work there prevents implementation this year.
In the opinion of the mobility advisor Georg Dunkel (non-party), the white marked cycle paths improve the road safety for cyclists "quite considerably".
In the summer of 2020, pop-up cycle paths were built in six different locations in Munich.
The pop-up cycle paths were dismantled again in winter.
That caused frustration for many Munich cyclists.
This is what the people of Munich say about the project
This has a future: I think it's good that there will soon be a cycle lane here.
As a cyclist, you are always happy about a safe cycle path.
Otherwise it's a cramp with the heavy traffic.
In the Netherlands cycling has a much higher priority.
For me the traffic concept of the future!

More color would be good
More color would be good: more cycle paths are good, but these cycle lanes still involve a risk.
Drivers often ignore the routes or park them up.
I think it would be better if the stripes were marked with yellow or red paint.

Take a detour: The cycle lane here is too unsafe for me.
The cars only have one lane and are constantly parked on the cycle lane.
Instead, I switch to Balanstrasse.
It would be better to expand the cycle path there, it would be safer for everyone.

The cycle lane is too unsafe for me here, says pensioner Christa W. The 74-year-old prefers to take detours.
