Queen Elizabeth said today (Wednesday) that she is thrilled by all the gestures made to her late husband Prince Philip, in a public statement since his death earlier this month in wave 99 and on the day she celebrates her 95th birthday.

"While we as a family are in a time of great sadness, it has been a comfort to all of us to see and hear the gestures made to my husband from the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and the world," the Queen said.

"My family and I would like to thank all of you for the support and kindness that has been expressed towards us in recent days. We have been deeply moved, and we continue to receive reminders that Philip has had such an extraordinary impact on countless people throughout his life."

The Queen was first seen in public on Saturday, during her husband's funeral for more than 70 years at Windsor Castle.

The ceremony was limited to 30 family members.

Prince Philip, a native of Greece, married Elizabeth in 1947 and was praised for the modern changes he brought to the palace over his decades alongside the Queen. Elizabeth used to call it her "anchor and backbone." She will spend her birthday, which is usually celebrated, if at all, in a limited way, at Windsor Palace.

This year the birthday will be even more modest, due to the two-week mourning period in which the royal family is, without the traditional barrages of honor from the Tower of London or Hyde Park in the capital. The Queen has an official birthday which is celebrated more ceremoniously on the second Saturday of June.

"I received many congratulations on my 95th birthday, and I really appreciate it," said Elizabeth, the world's oldest monarch.

Among the greeters was Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who did not attend Philip's funeral due to corona restrictions. "I am proud to serve as its prime minister," he tweeted.

With Philip's death, Elizabeth lost her closest and most loyal adviser, who was by her side throughout her 69 years of rule.

All this coincides with one of the most serious crises in the royal family in recent decades, with allegations of racism and neglect on the part of Prince Harry and his American wife Megan Merkel.

Media outlets in the kingdom have reported that family members will visit the queen in the coming days so that she does not feel alone these days.

A spokesman for Buckingham Palace declined to comment, saying all family matters after the funeral would be private.

Elizabeth was born on 21 April 1926 in central London.

She ascended the throne in 1952 at the age of 25, and bypassed in September 2015. Her great-great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, as the oldest monarch in British history.

She also serves as queen for 15 former British colonies, including Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
