French automotive manufacturers may well prepare for it, but the shift to electric is proving to be more difficult to negotiate than expected.
On the one hand, the announced end of the petrol engine is likely to be much faster than they anticipated last year again, because of a strengthening of the standards that Brussels is trying to impose;
on the other hand, Europe risks being overtaken by China in the market for batteries, key components of electric vehicles.

As a result of this scissor effect, more than 100,000 jobs could be lost among automobile manufacturers and subcontractors by 2035. The sector would then employ only 90,000 employees, according to the Observatory of metallurgy.
France is threatened with
"downgrading"
